Now this is how you destroy the world. Roland Emmerich's 2012 pounces on a Nostradamus-style loophole in the Mayan calendar and rams the apocalypse through it, gleefully conjuring up an enormous amount of Saturday-matinee fun in the process. A scientist (Chiwetel Ejiofor) detects shifting continental plates and sun flares and realizes that this foretells the imminent destruction of the planet. Just as the molten lava is about to hit the fan, a novelist (John Cusack) takes his kids on a trip to Yellowstone; later he'll hook up with his ex (Amanda Peet) and her new boyfriend (Tom McCarthy) in a global journey toward safety. If there is any safety. The suitably hair-raising plot lines are punctuated--frequently, people, frequently--by visions of mayhem around the globe: the Vatican falls over, the White House is clobbered (Emmerich's Independence Day was not enough on that score), and the California coastline dives into the Pacific Ocean. Unlike other action directors we could name, Emmerich actually understands how to let you see and drink in these vast special-effects vistas--and they are incredible. He also honors the old Irwin Allen disaster-movie tradition by actually shelling out for good actors. Cusack and Ejiofor are convincing even in the cheesiest material; toss in Danny Glover (the U.S. president), Woody Harrelson (a nut-bar conspiracy-theorizing radio host), Thandie Newton, and Oliver Platt, and you've got a very watchable batch of people. Emmerich hasn't developed an ear for dialogue, even at this stage in his career, and the final act goes on a bit too long. This is a very silly movie, but if you've got a weakness for B-movie energy and hairbreadth escapes, 2012 delivers quite a bit of both. --Robert Horton

I'm giving this 5 stars to help balance out the stupid, ridiculous 1 star reviews. There are certain people who like to say that the good movies are bad and the bad movies are good. They like the movies that lose money, are boring, and have no entertainment value. They prefer movies to have no special effects and nothing that's fun or entertaining. In other words, they like bad movies and they hate anything that's popular and successful. 2012 is one of the top grossing movies. I wouldn't say it's a great movie in every way but it has amazing disaster visuals and provides good entertainment value. It's a good movie to watch on your big HDTV and hear on your surround sound system. Also the story is fairly interesting. 2012 is certainly much more watchable than a terrible movie such as "Children of Men." People who trash popular entertainment such as 2012 think they're so smart, but I think they're idiots. I happen to have a very high IQ myself and I much prefer blockbuster movies over the boring little garbage movies that the critics praise.

This review is based wholly on the Blu-Ray box set. There are many Rambo box sets out there and rest assured there will be more. I chose to upgrade to this set because the collection with all 4 movies does not contain the new Rambo Extended Cut. If you don't know Rambo's story than you are either A. a tree hugging hippie, B. a monk, or C. born within the last 10 years!

First Blood is a 5 star movie based on the book by David Morrell. It tells the story of a Vietnam vet looking to find a place in America. Unable to hold a steady job and tormented by POW nightmares, Rambo moves from place to place. When he finds himself in a nowheresville USA, he quickly catches the eye of the town sheriff. Told that his kind isn't wanted there, he is taken out of the town limits and told not to return. Rambo defies the order and is arrested. Rambo is then beaten by the local police while in holding which triggers his instincts to fight back. What happens next is the start of a film icon!

First Blood Part II is a 5 star action movie! I would say this may be the first Blockbuster Action Film ever made. Now in prison for his town romp, Col. Trautman returns to give Rambo an out. A mission to go back to 'Nam and confirm the possible existence of POW's. Rambo accepts and utters these words "Do we get to win this time?" Ordered only to take pictures, Rambo defies orders (see a trend here) and saves one of them instead. The backstabbing politician running the whole thing freaks and aborts the mission leaving Rambo stranded and now a POW. Alas, held by his captors and tortured by the Russians running the camp, Rambo endures more punishment that only fuels his rage. What happens next is probably the greatest one man army display ever filmed! From the jungles scenes to the finale, you will feel the rush and cheer!

First Blood Part III is a 3.5 star action movie. This time Rambo is living a peaceful life in Thailand. Col. Trautman finds him and asks for his help on a mission he is leading in Afghanistan. Rambo claims his war is over but that all changes once his only ally becomes a POW. Rambo asks to go in and save his friend. What happens next is he finds himself drawn to the Afghan freedom fighters and decides to pick up their plight against the Russians. This is by far the weakest of all the films but still ranks better than most action movies today.

BLU RAY THOUGHTS: I wasn't expecting much but all 3 films looked amazing. No this isn't like Avatar amazing but these films are over 20 years old and they looked brand new. Sound was excellent as well. SPECIAL FEATURES: Everything from the previous releases are here. Including the alt ending where Rambo kills himself as in the book. This 1987 thriller was a predictable hit with the teen audience it worked overtime to attract. Like most of director Joel Schumacher's films, it's conspicuously designed to push the right marketing and demographic buttons, and granted, there's some pretty cool stuff going on here and there. Take Kiefer Sutherland, for instance. In Stand by Me he played a memorable bully, but here he goes one step further as a memorable bully vampire who leads a tribe of teenage vampires on their nocturnal spree of bloodsucking havoc. Jason Patric plays the new guy in town, who quickly attracts a lovely girlfriend (Jami Gertz), only to find that she might be recruiting him into the vampire fold. The movie gets sillier as it goes along, and resorts to a routine action-movie showdown, but it's a visual knockout (featuring great cinematography by Michael Chapman) and boasts a cast that's eminently able (pardon the pun) to sink their teeth into the best parts of an uneven screenplay. --Jeff Shannon

Twister was a mega-million-dollar blockbuster--helmed by a director (Dutchman Jan de Bont) hot off another scorcher hit (Speed)--that flaunted state-of-the-art digital effects and featured a popular leading actress (Helen Hunt) who would win an Academy Award for her next film (As Good As It Gets). But ask anybody who's seen it and they'll tell you who the real star of Twister is: the cow. Not to give anything away, but the cow is one of those inspired little touches (like, say, Bronson Pinchot's career-making cameo in Beverly Hills Cop) that adds a touch of personality to a gigantic Hollywood production. The story is blown out the window after an impressive prologue in which Hunt's character, as a little girl, witnesses her daddy being sucked into a tornado. Basically, Hunt and Bill Paxton are thrill-seeking meteorologists chasing twisters in order to study them (and help warn people of them, of course) with a new technology they've developed. If you thought the Kansas tornado in The Wizard of Oz was every bit as scary as the Wicked Witch of the West, then this may be the movie for you. --Jim Emerson

ive known this movie from the 1st time i saw it came out on screen in australia, i went to see it with my baby sitter i was that young 14. my fav part is just after lunch with aunt meg cos they get into the whole 4wd part 'it gets bumpier folks'.

this movie has a unique class & with helen hunt & billy paxton & the other actors. 4wd, the outdoors is my life, id never share this movie with anyone & il never get sick of watching it. its above all the latest movies. there are no words to describe it, but to me they did a perfection job @ it.

Great set and price.
Here's my reviews on the movies......
GENERATIONS:
I never thot I'd give Star Trek a 1 star.
First off #1.........the NEXUS......supposed to be this great thing, fun, wonderful....yet.....WHY.....why did that starship while caught in the nexus send out a distress call for help? They were in the nexus, then many were bemed off the nexus, yanked away it was awful for them, they wanted to stay there, but oh, there was that distress call, whatever.
#2. That dude kept killing stars to alter the projectory of the nexus to fly right over him, killing MILLIONS in the process. Why didnt he just get a shuttlecraft or any ship and fly into the dang thing? Or fly in close and beem himslef into it? I mean why got through all the drama of detroying stars and planets?
#3. While in the Nexus you can chose to leave at any time and go to anywhere and anytime....yet Picard gets in there and immediately wants to leave and take Kirk with him.....whats the rush? You can leave a 1000 years later and still go back to the exact same time you want to go to.
#4. Why does Picard then chose to go back to the planet with Kirk and kill this guy? why not go back to when he first rescued the ship in distress and passed that guy in the hallway? Could have saved millions of lives.
Just a idiotic written movie, a disgreace really when you think of all the flaws in it.
The series finale with Q would have made a awesome movie and this script should have been seriously
re-written or shelved.
====One last Flaw.....on the Series of next generation where they find Scottie, he asks if Kirk was up to his rescue...yet....he was there when Kirk Died and went into the nexus, so why then would he ask such a stupid question when he knew Kirk died??? Having made this movie AFTER that episode and knowing Scottie asked if kirk was in charge of the rescue, they needed to re-write the first scene or just not have Scottie present and we'd then think he was then stuck in the transporter loop. having known this flaw, the writers just ignores this and proceeds anyways!
Just Horrible!!!!!!

FIRST CONTACT: Loved it, No complaints, Great Movie.

Insurrection: Loved it, Great Movie.

Nemesis: Overall, enjoyed it, but one thing that always ticks me is that they can never kill off any character without giving a backdoor to come back! I mean come on! Data dies, but then oh wait, B4 is given all of Data's knowledge. had the movie been a smash hit, Data would have been back and probably even called Data with some excuse saying his alga-rythems over rode those of B4.
One Flaw in the movie: When Picard rams the Enterprise into the Mothership you hear this huge explosion and ripping of metal, ect ect. Well in Space, there is NO gravity, you hit as ship and it just bounces away, it's not gonna stand still and allow this ship to rip into it and cause all this damage. I mean come on! How could such a BS Flaw come into this movie? At least say something to make this believable like he has the thrusters on in reverse to maintian to the ships location, or make uip some stuff like the ships stabilizers on or something, but to ram into it in space, it's just laughable.

THIS MOVIE ROCKS

I have been watching this movie for years and I think this is my 4th copy that I have purchased as there have been several different releases. This by far is the best option for you. I am a huge fan of the original soundtrack but sometimes I watch it dubbed which isnt bad but I find that anytime they dub movies like this the replace the music and it totally changes the movie. Watch it with the original soundtrack

The best fight scene is the last one with the general. Added with the original music and it is easily one of my favorite scenes in a movie.

Professional wrestling star the Rock, who was such a lump of flesh in The Scorpion King, proves surprisingly light on his feet in The Rundown, demonstrating charm and humor as well as the requisite toughness. Beck (the Rock), a repo-man for deadbeats, is sent to South America to find a treasure hunter (Seann William Scott) who's seeking a priceless golden idol--which the local head honcho (Christopher Walken) would like to get his hands on as well. Add in the lovely but dangerous barmaid with a secret (Rosario Dawson), and Beck has some obstacles to overcome. The plot of The Rundown isn't anything special, but the script is enjoyably clever and reasonably coherent; the capable cast keeps things lively; and the movie's relaxed but sinewy pace sets it apart from the frantic floundering of recent action flicks--kudos to director Peter Berg (Very Bad Things). Beck is a bounty hunter, and the best at it...and he can cook, too! In order to get out of the game and open his dream little restaurant, he needs just one more job. He's asked to hunt down and return his boss's son, Travis. What ensues is a action-comedy romp filled with jungle dangers, humping monkeys, local rebels, lost treasure, and a bad-ass Christopher Walken. The movie is totally enjoyable and worth a watch!

Depp gets all the good lines and steals the show, recruiting Orlando Bloom (a blacksmith and expert swordsman) and Keira Knightley (a lovely governor's daughter) on an adventurous quest to recapture the notorious Black Pearl, a ghost ship commandeered by Jack's nemesis Capt. Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), a mutineer desperate to reverse the curse that left him and his (literally) skeleton crew in a state of eternal, undead damnation. Director Gore Verbinski (The Ring) repeats the redundant mayhem that marred his debut film Mouse Hunt, but with the writers of Shrek he's made Pirates into a special-effects thrill-ride that plays like a Halloween party on the open seas. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the strong suit of the franchise, as the film excels during its stunt pieces, which are impressively extravagant (in particular a three-way swordfight atop a mill wheel). It may help to know that Dead Man's Chest was filmed simultaneously with some of Pirates 3, so don't expect a complete resolution (think more The Empire Strikes Back) or the movie will feel a lot longer than it really is. Bloom shows a tad bit more brawn this time around, but he's still every bit as pretty as the tomboyish Knightley. (Seriously, sometimes you think they could swap roles.) Bill Nighy (Love, Actually) weighs in as Davy Jones and Stellan Skarsgård appears as Will's undead father. But the film still belongs wholly to Depp, who in a reprise of his Oscar-nominated role gets all the belly laughs with a single widened eyeliner-ed gaze. He still runs like a cartoon hen and slurs like Keith Richards--and he's still one of the most fascinating movie characters in recent history. --Ellen A. Kim

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a rollicking voyage in the same spirit of the two earlier Pirates films, yet far darker in spots (and nearly three hours to boot). The action, largely revolving around a pirate alliance against the ruthless East India Trading Company, doesn't disappoint, though the violence is probably too harsh for young children. Through it all, the plucky cast (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush) are buffeted by battle, maelstroms, betrayal, treachery, a ferocious Caribbean weather goddess, and that gnarly voyage back from the world's end--but with their wit intact. As always, Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow tosses off great lines ; he chastises "a woman scorned, like which hell hath no fury than!" He insults an opponent with a string of epithets, ending in "yeasty codpiece."! In the previous Dead Man's Chest, Sparrow was killed--sent to Davy Jones' Locker. In the opening scenes, the viewer sees that death has not been kind to Sparrow--but that's not to say he hasn't found endless ways to amuse himself, cavorting with dozens of hallucinated versions of himself on the deck of the Black Pearl. But Sparrow is needed in this world, so a daring rescue brings him back. Keith Richards' much ballyhooed appearance as Jack's dad is little more than a cameo, though he does play a wistful guitar. But the action, as always, is more than satisfying, held together by Depp, who, outsmarting the far-better-armed British yet again, causes a bewigged commander to muse: "Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along?" First of all, this is a good set of dvds. The quality of the script does though suffer towards the end of the trilogy, in my opinion. The first of Captain Sparrow's adventures - 'The Curse of the Black Pearl' is easily the best, although Johnny Depp is great throughout in the lead role. Johnny Depp is brilliant in this and has now cemented himself into the position of all time great movie pirate!

I wouldn't say this is one of the all time great trilogy's - that label would have to go to the likes of 'Lord of the Rings' and the original 'Star Wars'. However, the brilliance of the first movie, the first three quarters of the sequel and first half of the final installment are enough to recommend it.

The early reels are a mesmerizing look at the getting of oil from the ground, an intensely physical process that later broadens into Plainview's equally indomitable urge to control land and power. Curious, diverting episodes accumulate during Plainview's rise: a mighty derrick fire (a bravura opportunity that Anderson, with the aid of cinematographer Robert Elswit, does not fail to meet), a visit from a long-lost brother (Kevin J. O'Connor), the ongoing involvement of Plainview's poker-faced adoptive son (Dillon Freasier). As the film progresses, it gravitates toward Plainview's rivalry with the local representative of God, a preacher named Eli Sunday (brimstone-spitting Paul Dano); religion and capitalism are thus presented not so much as opposing forces but as two sides of the same coin. And the worm in the apple here is less man's greed than his vanity. Anderson's offbeat take on all this--exemplified by the astonishing musical score by Jonny Greenwood--occasionally threatens to break the film apart, but even when it founders, it excites. As for Daniel Day-Lewis, his performance is Olivier-like in its grand scope and its attention to details of behavior; Plainview speaks in the rum-rich voice of John Huston, and squints with the wariness of Walter Huston. There Will Be Blood [Blu-ray] Review


Imagine "Citizen Kane" with petroleum replacing newspapers, and you have a pretty good idea of what "There Will Be Blood" is about. Whether it's a great film is debatable. But there's no question it's an absolute knockout -- for its acting, cinematography, and music.

"There Will Be Blood" is another in Hollywood's long line of left-wing "I hate American society" films. I love such movies (we need them now more than ever), especially when they attack fundamental American values such as greed, hypocrisy, materialism, and shallow religiosity. This one strikes with a Panzer division and cruise missiles.

The meaning of the title is not altogether clear. I interpret it as the second part of the statement "Whenever a great deal of money is involved, there will be blood." Take it as you like.

Though Daniel Day-Lewis's performance has been widely praised, it is, to some degree, one-note "Spock" acting with little variation in tone. Worse, he sounds as if he's channeling Jack Palance. (Other people hear John Huston.) And when Paul Dano (in an otherwise fine performance) goes into a squeally fit, he sounds like Gene Wilder groveling in front of Zero Mostel. It's surprising the director failed to catch and fix these problems, which grow increasingly irritating.

The cinematography is not irritating. "There Will Be Blood" is one of the best-photographed color films I've ever seen. I particularly like the way detail is retained in bright backgrounds, without burning them out. The music score is also exceptional, totally "wrong", yet absolutely perfect, even the use of a terrible performance of the Brahms violin concerto (Sophe-Mutter + HvK).

One obvious question might be... Given the subject matter, is "There Will Be Blood" as good as "Citizen Kane"? Nope, because the latter is (surprisingly) a far more audacious film. And Welles had the genius to add the "Rosebud" riddle, which keeps the audience interested.

Given the highly positive critical response to "There Will Be Blood", you should read a review from a right-wing critic who not only detested the film, but utterly missed its obvious (and to be fair, heavy-handed) points. "There Will Be Blood" would barely rank a PG rating, if it weren't for a brutal (though not particularly graphic) murder near the end. Whether it's enough to justify an R, I don't know. But it's the kind of film teenagers /ought/ to see (especially those belonging to Young Republicans), so parents shouldn't hesitate to let them watch.

The word Baraka means "blessing" in several languages; watching this film, the viewer is blessed with a dazzling barrage of images that transcend language. Filmed in 24 countries and set to an ever-changing global soundtrack, the movie draws some surprising connections between various peoples and the spaces they inhabit, whether that space is a lonely mountaintop or a crowded cigarette factory. Some of these attempts at connection are more successful than others: for instance, an early sequence segues between the daily devotions of Tibetan monks, Orthodox Jews, and whirling dervishes, finding more similarity among these rituals than one might expect. And there are other amazing moments, as when sped-up footage of a busy Hong Kong intersection reveals a beautiful symmetry to urban life that could only be appreciated from the perspective of film. The lack of context is occasionally frustrating--not knowing where a section was filmed, or the meaning of the ritual taking place--and some of the transitions are puzzling. However, the DVD includes a short behind-the-scenes featurette in which cinematographer Ron Fricke (Koyaanisqatsi) explains that the effect was intentional: "It's not where you are that's important, it's what's there." Boy oh boy, I was hoping that this blu-ray would do justice to the phenomenal depth and intensity of cinematographer/director Ron Fricke's Baraka, and rarely have I ever been less disappointed!

This film, already stunning in its wordless narrative of so many cultures and natural wonders on our incredible planet, comes to life like no other in blu-ray. As explained in one of the extras, this is the highest-quality transfer ever made to BD or dvd. Yes, you read that right. It's an 8k scan of a 70mm print, both the highest level of their respective digital and analog technologies, and this BD is in fact even crisper than the original theatrical print, having been cleaned up in parts from the print's occasional flaws. I've never seen a better picture on a home video screen.

There are few words to express how good this film looks, and few films ever made deserve this kind of perfectionist treatment. If one film can be said to more movingly cover this many views of mankind and our impact on this planet, I sure haven't seen it. Fricke takes his awe-inspring work on Koyanisqaatsi and the other Qaatsi films and moves them to the next level here. There are no simple answers or even questions, just images of Earth and its denizens, biped and so much more; funny thing is, we're the only species destroying the planet. That's made all too clear here, and the lack of words brings it home more forcefully, especially when juxtaposed with superb images of the immense peace and harmony present when mankind is not. The stunning colors and amazing depth of the images are done full justice by this frighteningly fine transfer; prepare yourself appropriately, turn out all the lights, and lose your mind in this one-of-a-kind visual experience, made even more intense by Michael Stearn's majestic score.

If you have a hi-def tv and a blu-ray player, run don't walk to get this BD disc. It will redefine what your system can do, while reminding you that it's just a screen and that the real wonders lie outside, in reality, on a planet whose dominant species is quickly eradicating many of the greatest treasures to which it was heir, as we're mutely shown. This film might even inspire you to do what you can to help preserve some of the myriad jewels to which this work of art bears witness.

A purely tasteless, moronic, guilty pleasure. Director HaroldRamis employs a mixture of Mad magazine/National Lampoon maturity and Saturday Night Live sarcasm in this goofball golf comedy set on the grounds of a posh country club. Somewhere buried in the slapstick antics, drug references, Marx Brothers-like insults, and gratuitous sex scenes are the intertwined, forgettable subplots of a poor caddie (Michael O'Keefe) trying to earn enough cash to attend college, and golf-tournament and class battles between rich and even richer snobs. Mainly, Ramis just lets his colorful group of eccentrics crash into each other, relying on several inspired performances to create several hilarious moments of sketch comedy. Most come from the trio of Bill Murray (playing a vile, obsessed groundskeeper engaged in a one-man war with a charismatic and very stuffed gopher), Rodney Dangerfield (basically re-creating his crude standup routine), and Chevy Chase (who looks bemusedly stoned throughout). Quotable favorites include Murray's acted-out fantasy of winning the Masters, his tall tale about caddying for the Dalai Lama, an overreaching priest's rain-soaked golf game, Dangerfield's verbal assault on the club's uptight dining patrons, and Chase's lesson on the essence of golf ("Be the ball, Danny"). A perfect double feature with other comparably crass films such as National Lampoon's Vacation or Stripes. --Dave McCoy

Once that wreckage has cleared, it is revealed that the hacker is only one of many hackers who are being targeted for extermination after they helped set up a "fire sale," a three-pronged cyberattack designed to bring down the entire country by crippling its transportation, finances, and utilities. That plan is now being put into action by a mysterious team (Timothy Olyphant, Deadwood, and Maggie Q, Mission: Impossible 3) that seems to be operating under the government's noses.

Live Free or Die Hard uses some of the cat-and-mouse elements of Die Hard with a Vengeance along with some of the pick-'em-off-one-by-one elements of the now-classic original movie. And it's the most consistently enjoyable installment of the franchise since the original, with eye-popping stunts (directed by Len Wiseman of the Underworld franchise), good humor, and Willis's ability to toss off a quip while barely alive. There was some controversy over the film's PG-13 rating--there might be less blood than usual, and McClane's famous tag line is somewhat obscured--but there's still has plenty of action and a high body count. The thing I love about the Die Hard films is their complete lack of pretentiousness. They are big, dumb, stupid action films, but they know perfectly well that they're big, dumb, stupid action films and don't pretend to be anything else. No heavy-handed moralising or social commentary, no token attempts to be "deep", no multi-layered political plot filled with challenging twists. McClane is the Good Guy, his opponents are Bad Guys, Good Guy fights Bad Guys, Good Guy wins. Sure, it's cliched and predictable, but so what? It's great fun. And in the post-9/11 world, where every Hollywood action/thriller is full of "Are we really the bad guys?" navel gazing, the black-and-white morality of 'Live Free Or Die Hard' is actualy quite refreshing.

The plot is perhaps the one token attempt to be modern, involving cyber-hackers shutting down essentail infrastructure systems across the East Coast, bringing the US to a stand-still. But from here, you know exactly how this works. While the FBI and other experts just stand around frowning and looking worried, McClane dispatches the army of baddies almost single handedly, all the while coming up with a smart wisecrack to nail every moment. It is an older and more world-weary McClane in this installment, which of course just allows more room for jokes about his age, hair, fitness, and lack of technological nous.

This movie is unashamedly stupid. Turn off everything even remotely resembling a brain cell before watching this, and please don't bother trying to understand how McClane can survive 100 metre falls, car pile-ups, massive explosions, and hundreds of bullets. And as for why the baddies fire everything from a machine-gun to a missile at McClane without causing a scratch, while McClane can let off two bullets from a pistol and hit them between the eyes.....you know better than to ask that, don't you?

By now, Bruce Willis can play McClane in his sleep, and there are some surprisingly strong supporting roles. Justin Tong nails it as the nervy hacker Farrell, and I also loved Mary Elizabeth Winstead as McClane's daughter Lucy (who shares the same no-nonsense attributes as her father). Cliff Curtis gives Bowman unexpected intelligence and depth as the capable-but-hamstrung FBI head Bowman, and I wish there'd been more of Maggie Q as the very cool Mai, since Timothy Olyphant wasn't that menacing as the main villain.

You know exacly what you're going to get from a Die Hard movie, and the fourth installment delivers everything you want in spades. Brainless popcorn stupidity was never so much fun.
